Well, it looks like I did miss the Zombie Walk this year but here’s some footage to keep you all zombied out today.

A “zombie walk” also known as a “zombie mob” is an organized public gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban center, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls in a somewhat orderly fashion and often limping their way towards a local cemetery or other public space.

The Stinking Rose may be the best Italian restaurant in San Francisco!

The Stinking Rose may be the best Italian restaurant in San Francisco!

The Stinking Rose may be the best Italian restaurant in San Francisco!

As a long-time visitor to various different clubs in the North Beach area in San Francisco, I would have to say that The Stinking Rose is one of the best Italian restaurants I have tried.

Regardless of the fact that some of the hookers like to hang out with the waiters at this restaurant, it’s a classy place that serves authentic Italian food.

The Stinking Rose Website

Stinking Rose on Yelp - Hmmm, I guess not everyone likes this place but there’s a lot of reviews.

Green Roof Advertising on SF Bus Stops!

Green Roof Advertising on SF Bus Stops!

Green Roof Advertising on SF Bus Stops!

If you notice new green roofs appearing everywhere in SF bus stops, don’t worry as they are a form of advertising by California Academy of Sciences.  Seems like a great idea for greening the bus stops but I hope no homeless guys take it as decoration for their carts. :p

What the triplepundit article doesn’t mention is that this marketing scheme is actually a very good thing, for several reasons. First and foremost, air pollution from large diesel vehicles is greatest during acceleration. When the buses pull away from the shelter, those giant black clouds of soot and sulfur dioxide can be mitigated (at least a little) by the shelter green roof. Secondly, the green roof will help keep the shelter about 10% cooler. Finally, the green roof will help reduce runoff, while also capturing the fine particulate matter in the rain as it falls.

Roz Savage on her way to rowing the entire Pacific Ocean.

Roz Savage is a British woman who has “rowed” her way all the way from San Francisco to Hawaii.  Her next step will be rowing to Australia?  Oh gawd, please be safe.

Roz Savage’s rowing site

Roz Savage, the Brit who aims to become the first woman to row solo across the Pacific, is back on land for the first time in nearly 100 days and is marking a milestone.

She arrived in Hawaii on Monday morning, completing the first of three legs of her journey across the Pacific Ocean. That’s after setting off from San Francisco in her 24-foot rowboat known as the “Brocade” just before midnight on May 24. In all, she rowed about 2,600 miles.

Although I rely on the ocean view of Ocean Beach to forecast the upcoming weather (if the waves are grey, that means the weather will get rough and if the waves are clear blue, it’s going to be a great day), you can get a real-time up-to-the-minute stats on Buoy trends, Tide, and Wind over at StokeReport.com.

Piano Bike Spotted at Giant’s Game!

Piano Bike Spotted at Giant's Game!

Piano Bike Spotted at Giant

Next time you are at the Giants Game, make sure to look for this Piano Bike and ask for a free song. (well, make sure to tip him a dollar for the effort)

If you’ve been to a few Giants games, you may have seen Gary riding or playing his wicked-cool contraption. I stopped to ask Gary a bit about the bike — he built it from hand, using an almost-worn out piano (which, fortunately, had no broken strings), and part of a cruiser.

Wave Organ San Francisco!

Here’s an interesting site in San Francisco called Wave Organ near Marina.

If you want an unusual escape from the hubbub at San Francisco’s pier attractions, head out to the mysterious Wave Organ. It’s past the St. Francis Yacht Club, at the end of a jetty.

Usually no one is out there, and the jetty offers a pleasant view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and that low part of the city prone to catch on fire after earthquakes. The jetty was constructed from tombstone and monument fragments from a demolished 19th century cemetery. The Wave Organ incorporates some of this ornate — and creepy, if you think about it — stonework into its design.

San Francisco Downtown in Toothpicks!

Posted by max on September 07, 2008
Art, News, SF Downtown / No Comments

Here’s a cool toothpick version of San Francisco downtown.

Scott, a Rohnert Park resident and supermarket produce man with time on his hands since he injured a knee, has created a 9-foot-tall sculpture of San Francisco Bay scenes, attractions and landmarks.

There’s the Golden Gate Bridge, Muir Woods, Humphrey the humpback whale, the Ferry Building and on and on — all made of glued-together toothpicks.

September 19th is a Parking Day!

September 19th is a Parking Day!

September 19th is a Parking Day in San Francisco and other major cities around the country.  It’s basically a day where you can turn “any” parking space into a mobile “park”.

Heck, you can even take police car parking spots on this day.

It looks like San Francisco had the most parks last year so let’s hope we win again this year.

Conceived by REBAR, a San Francisco-based art collective, PARK(ing) Day is a one-day, global event centered in San Francisco where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks.
