The SF Solar Map shows you solar installations in San Francisco plus the ability to calculate energy savings if you did install solar panels on your roof. We don’t get much sun here but still, there’s enough sun to save most houses power.
What a great selling tool for people interested in purchasing PV, but are unsure whether they have the right roof for solar. Neighbors can see who in their area has solar, take a peek at their system, and decide whether they think it was a clean install, compare with other installs and determine whether its even going to be visible from the street.
Jared Blumenfeld, Director of the SF Department of the Environment, says that they are aiming to put solar on 10,000 rooftops by 2010. To help encourage people on the fence, the site also has testimonials by area residents with installed solar systems, dispelling myths like San Francisco is too foggy for solar and whether its noisy or a bother to have solar.

The SF Solar map is a great way to look at the hundreds of installations around the city. It is a common misconception that the foggy weather, especially in the sunset would hinder solar production. In fact, the actual loss of efficiency is less than 5%. If anyone is interested in solar power for their home, business or non-profit, please feel free to email for a free evaluation: brians@nextenergysolar.com.
With the SF Incentive program, its a great time to consider going solar.
