San Francisco Downtown Sculpted in Cookware!

Zhan Wang, a Beijing-based artist, has re-created downtown San Francisco using cookware. Pretty creative I’d say although the only building I can identify is the TransAmerica building pointing up at the right of the picture.

I am guessing that the spoons at the bottom are the boats at the docks…

Lol… this is more fun than real pictures!

Zhan Wang is among the most respected artists in China, having become world-renown for his stainless steel sculptures of “scholars’ rocks,” the graceful, craggy boulders found in several provinces around China that seem to have been sculpted by natural forces into complex forms worthy of thoughtful contemplation–almost like mental or spiritual landscapes. Collecting these rocks from around China, Wang painstakingly pounds, bends, heats, and molds sections of stainless steel plate across the cloud-like topography of each rock, as if wrapping it in steel–in essence, applying a modern industrial skin to an ancient geologic body. After the steel has been shaped around the rock it is peeled away in sections, welded together as a single unit–a now-hollow duplicate of the rock–and polished to a flawless steel sheen, in some cases almost a mirror finish. The resulting play of light upon their surfaces has the effect of seeming to disembody and even liquefy the steel sculptures, as if they were luminous floating masses or shimmering topographies.

Pier 39 at Fisherman\'s Wharf

There are a lot of piers at the Fisherman’s Wharf.  But Pier 39 is undeniably the most fun place to hang out.

Pier 39 pretty much consists of bunch of little mom and pop shops, aquarium, and some other tourist attractions.  You can enlarge on the above picture to see the whole directory.

Here’s a look into what it looks like when you enter:

Pier 39 at Fisherman\'s Wharf!2

Pier 39 at Fisherman\'s Wharf!3

A word of warning about Pier 39, DO NOT GOTO Bubba Gump restaurant!  It is the worst-tasting seafood at FIsherman’s Wharf!  Although I do love the movie, Forrest Gump, Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant is like the horror-movie of San Francisco seafood.  (I believe they are still in business due to all the new tourists who don’t know how the food tastes…)

Like I said before on the previous post, you need to go to Nick’s Lighthouse, not a fancy schmazy Hollywood bs marketing. , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Shooting at San Francisco metreon again!

Posted by max on September 07, 2008
News / No Comments

Remember, someone got shot at Jillian’s in Metreon 2 months ago? Well, there’s been another shooting at the Metreon!

Although it’s from some kind of argument, I’d probably wouldn’t want to go to Metreon for awhile…

At least the shooter didn’t take off in a pimped-out ride this time.

An Oakland man is dead and a suspect in custody after a fatal shooting at San Francisco’s Metreon shopping center.

Police say the 18-year-old victim was shot to death around 7:30 Sunday night after an argument with at least one other person near a theater ticket counter at the center.

Getaway Car of the Meteron Shooters - The Killer Limo

The Killer Limo 1

The Killer Limo 2

The Killer Limo 3

Apparently, the Meteron killer’s getaway car is a stretch limo fitted with all sorts of engine upgrades and interior modifications.

I’d probably keep the car, don’t risk it for this…

According to Bay Area Racing Limos, the garishly painted custom built vehicle is worth an estimated $80,000+ and features 5 flat screen monitors, high-end Kenwood sound system, Playstation II, Karaoke system, integrated IPOD port, redesigned mirrored/lighted ceiling, 3 ice chests, interior/exterior strobes, laser and rope lights. The perfect for way for the criminal element to travel in style.

Due to the obviousness of the vehicle and descriptions from witnesses, cops were able to find the car on 580 before it dropped off it’s criminal cargo …

A.M. Shooting Outside Metreon: 1 Dead, 1 Injured

A.M. Shooting Outside Metreon: 1 Dead, 1 Injured

It looks like somebody got shot at Jilian’s right outside the Metreon. Better not go near there for awhile…

According to the Chronicle, police arrested a suspect in the killing of a man and wounding of a woman outside Jillian’s nightclub — a venue known in the club scene for its somewhat douchebaggie clientele — located at the steely mega-complex, the Metreon. The shootings took place before 2 a.m. this morning at Fourth and Howard Streets. The area has seen a spike in crime since the openings of Bloomingdale’s and the Westfield Shopping Center Centre.

Alas, this year’s crime wave in SF sees no signs of abating. Maybe it will during the autumn months? We’ll see.

Alright, here it is. Paul Addis, the guy who allegedly burned down Burning Man is saying stuff like, “STOP THE FUCKIN’ WAR.”

Bay Bridge Open Again!

Bay Bridge Open Again!

It looks like the Bay Bridge is open little bit sooner than we thought. Good news is that now you can go over the bridge to check out our new mattress store sooner!

Was it just us, or did you also think, as soon as the Bay Bridge closed, that the only things you wanted to do over Labor Day Weekend were on the other side of the bay? Well, all those days are now nothing but a hazy memory, with the bridge reopening a full 11 hours earlier than planned (at around 6 p.m. last night) and traffic flowing relatively normally (i.e., jammed, but no more so than usual) this morning.
