Here’s an interesting crime map from 2003. I recommend that you do not live too close to downtown, that is unless you live in a nice secure high-rise condo.

Want to help San Francisco by cleaning up? Here’s a great DIY on how to host your own park clean-up in SF.
You don’t have to wait for Earth Day to do some green good around your neighborhood. Host a Park Clean-Up any time of year (weather permitting, of course) and improve your local hang out while making friends with your neighbors. Do it right and you’re sure to get some free coffee too.
My dream is to own a green home in San Francisco. Of course, I’d like to own a home near the Golden Gate Bridge where price tag of houses are more than at least $2-3 million.
In the meanwhile, you can enjoy green homes such as this one featured in the Mission District.
Designed by architect John Lum, the building — which includes a main house and an apartment — occupies a 50- by 70-foot corner lot. Lum’s plan maximizes natural light and airflow on each of three levels, with rooms leading off an open, central stairway made of glass and steel. The main living and dining areas and kitchen are on the top floor to take advantage of views across the city. “It’s kind of an upside-down house,” Lum explains. “The public spaces are at the top, and the more private master suite and guest rooms are below.”
But what makes the home truly groundbreaking are the eco-features it incorporates, some of them still in experimental stages. For example, hot water will be provided by rooftop tubes that collect solar energy, says Matt Golden, founder and CEO of Sustainable Spaces and a project consultant. The home’s electricity will come from SunPower solar panels and a wind turbine installed in the backyard — a power source so unusual in San Francisco, the builder had to get a one-year provisional test permit before it could be installed. A high-tech resource-monitoring system will keep tabs on energy and water use.
Yey, we finally have some people hating Bush so much that they took Bush Street Signs!
Vandalism or Patriotic?
We will let you decide on that.
San Francisco officials said missing street signs for Bush Street may be a result of dissatisfaction with the current U.S. president.
Residents said signs are missing from the intersections of Bush and Kearny Streets, and Bush and Montgomery, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday.
“I have helped numerous tourists (and locals) trying to find Bush Street (and Montgomery), but they had no idea where they were because there was no street sign,” legal secretary Katherine Small said.
San Francisco will be getting a new Transbay Terminal. Basically, it’s an eco-friendly structure/transit center that will be placed at 1st and Mission Street in downtown. Looks great but won’t be here for another 11 years.
SAN FRANCISCO.- The Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) Board of Directors today unanimously approved a professional services agreement with Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects to design the new landmark Transbay Transit Center in downtown San Francisco.
“San Francisco is both lucky and deserving to have the skill and grace that the firm of Pelli Clarke Pelli will bring to the design of the West Coast’s most significant transit facility,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom. “Through this forward thinking project, we can inspire change to an environmentally sustainable model of living while also enhancing economic growth in our City, region and State.”
The TJPA Board unanimously voted in September to enter into exclusive negotiations with the Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects (PCPA) and developer Hines team following the TJPA’s eight month long international Design and Development Competition to select the lead architect for the Transit Center and Tower and developer for the Tower. PCPA’s “City Park” design was unanimously recommended by the Design and Development Jury, an expert panel of design, planning, engineering, transit and real estate development professionals.
The best place to park at Ocean Beach during a busy summer day is on the Great Highway, where you can access the “non-busy” part of Ocean Beach.
Well, I took the liberty of taking some colorful pictures of the unique little houses on the Great Highway on our way back from the Beach Trip. Btw, if you have 2 or 3 story house, you get a very nice ocean view.
But don’t let the size full you, each of these houses are probably more than $1-2 million if you wanted to buy one.
Well, the other day was the hottest day in San Francisco with temperature reaching up to 94 degrees fahrenheit.
One thing about weather in San Francisco is that it can suddenly go from 94 degrees to 70 degrees in matter of minutes like it did today. The fog came over Sunset district in matter of minutes and the temperature just dropped like that.
I am glad I did go take my tent to the Ocean Beach the other day though, proud to say that I was the only person with a “real” tent. It tooks me about 10 minutes to set it up since I haven’t used tents in like 10 years.
Here’s some shots of Ocean Beach you can enjoy. It was very beautiful and unreal as the ocean mist (as you can see in the pics) covered the whole beach.
These are times I love living in San Franciso. I took a nice 2 hour nap while hearing the ocean waves, of course in my nice cozy tent.
San Francisco is ranked as the second most green city in the US. I can tell that San Francisco would be such a city as most of the city buses are electrically powered, there’s thousands of Chinese people who recycle like crazy, and most importantly, everyone cares about the environment.
I see more electric cars and “share” cars in San Francisco than most other cities I’ve been to. (where they don’t have such things)
Well, congrats to all you San Franciscans, you should be proud that we live in one of the greenest city!
With Mayor Newsom trying to make it “not” illegal to recycle, (I personally that’s going too far) it’s no wonder SF makes it to the Top 5 list.
San Francisco weather hits all high for this year yesterday at 94 degrees fahrenheit! I didn’t have time to go to the beach but today I will for sheezy.
Summer is starting so make sure start wearing shorts and go to Ocean Beach a lot.
Just in, gay marriage in California is constitutional and legal. Although I am not gay, as a resident of San Francisco, I applaud and support the gay community for the victory.
This isn’t even about Gay people, this is about the fact that the government is being prejudice because of certain people’s sexual orientation.
The one fact that I love living in San Francisco is the fact that there is more diversity here than any other place in America. You will get to see so many different cultures without having to go to their countries. For example, after I work out, I see these old Russian couples always hanging out by the park. If I go to Chinatown, it’s like being in China. For great Japanese food, I go to an authentic Japanese run by a Japanese sushi chef straight from Japan. I can go on and on about diversity.
San Francisco is the most free place to live in the world period. If you think otherwise, does your state allow gay-marriage?
Hey, we are in America. If this country is truly free like it’s supposed to be, there shouldn’t be limits for people regardless of sex, religion, sexual orientation, etc…etc…
Congrats to the gay community as they will start changing the world starting with San Francisco.
In a 4-3 decision, the justices said the state’s ban on same-sex marriage violates the “fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship.” The ruling is likely to flood county courthouses with applications from couples newly eligible to marry when the decision takes effect in 30 days.
“The California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples,” Chief Justice Ronald George wrote in the majority opinion.
Allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry “will not deprive opposite-sex couples of any rights and will not alter the legal framework of the institution of marriage,” George said.
