North Beach will be having a Jazz Fest on July 20th through 27th so mark your calendars for some jazzy nights at your favorite beach with no sand.

Jerry Garcia Amphitheater?  Well, I didn’t know there was an amphitheater dedicated to Jerry Garcia but I guess there is one!

The Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, located at 45 Shelley Drive in John McLaren Park, is one of the most spectacular performance venues in San Francisco.  The Greek-style amphitheater is situated in a bucolic setting away from urban noises.  With its outstanding acoustics and generous green room facilities, the theater is appropriate for all kinds of musical and dramatic performances.  Groups interested in renting the facility should contact the Department’s Permits and Reservations office at (415) 831-5500.

Replate.org is a great idea except that they should change the location of leftovers to the top of a newsstand instead of the trash can.  (Even a homeless person does have standards, they rather would eat out of a newsstand than a trash can)

Apart from Replate.org, I have always seen owners of deli shops leave their leftover sandwiches at store closing on a newstand, again, not a trash can please!

This July 4th, I might be headed out to Tank Hill, located somewhat next to Twin Peaks.  I doubt I can see Fireworks as well than being in downtown but it sure beats the traffic and parking tickets.

My new favorite high point in San Francisco is called Tank Hill, because it was once the location of a huge municipal water tank. Today it’s a protected park with a gorgeous day and night panoramic view from the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands all the way across the city and down to the East Bay. I heard about Tank Hill from a fantastic weekly newsletter called Weekend Sherpa, which reveals secret spots around the Bay Area for all kinds of outdoor activities. (Kay Merrill, a family travel planner who lives up on Larkspur, put me on to Weekend Sherpa.)

1. San Francisco is one of the “greenest” cities in the world.  (Ranked Top 5 in the U.S.)

2. San Francisco is surrounded by water and ocean breeze is better air than air in most other metropolitan cities.

3. San Francisco is one of the most diverse cities in the world.  (It’s also home to the biggest gay community in the world)

4. San Francisco is a mix of the beach/city/suburban setting all-in-one.  (Of course, it’d depend where you live)

5. San Francisco is cool in the summer and does not get cold as much as inland bay area cities.

6. Cheap Chinese food and cheap chinese groceries.  On contrary to your belief, San Francisco is actually cheaper in food prices if you shop at a “chinese” grocery where they don’t tax you like the major groceries.  Plus, there are so many Chinese restaurants that Chinese food gets very very cheap in San Francisco.

7. San Francisco is the heart of culture of the Western Hemisphere of the U.S.  There’s no other place like it period.

8. Lower crime rates and less race-related violence in San Francisco.  (than L.A.)

9. City life without the cost of city pollution.

10. Lots of fun stuff to do including clubbing, parks, museums, shopping, etc…etc…

If it ain’t in New York, it’s probably in San Francisco.

I can understand as most of San Francisco residents are driving maniacs with no patience whatsoever.  Well, “some” are good drivers but mostly, and sadly, my city is full of lunatics who CAN’T drive and should take public transportation instead.

Just be careful when you drive, and don’t get in fights.

Anthony, 48, and Michael, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene and the third victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital. The brother’s name has not been released.

Sgt. Neville Gittens said the man was placed on life-support but that the family Tuesday decided to take him off the machines that were keeping him alive.

Police believe the victims were driving south on Congdon Street when shots were fired from another vehicle driving north in the area of Maynard Street. The suspect vehicle drove off north on Congdon Street.

Williams said as many as three men, described as having close-cropped hair, were believed to be in the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was described as a newer-model, bluish-gray or greenish-gray Chrysler 300M with tinted windows and chrome rims.
