5% Health Care Surcharges at SF Restaurants!

Holy cow, I guess health care surcharges are being added to your bill at restaurants in San Francisco. This is outrageous as price of living is already too high in San Francisco.

Although I don’t go out much these days and started cooking more, I hope this bill goes away by the time I start going out more.

Does this mean we need to tip a little yes? Hell yes, fight for your right, it’s not fair.

Effective in 2008, San Francisco businesses with more than twenty employees must provide health care to all staff members who work over ten hours a week.

High Percentage of Black People in San Francisco Jail

The number of black people in SF jail is increasing while the number of residents are decreasing?

Well, that’s according to the Sheriff, but I don’t think you can really do a real comparison or analysis since there are not that many black people that live in San Francisco.

If gay people did this, it might be somewhat news in San Fran but this title could easily be read as “High Percentage of Asian People in SF Jail” or “High Percentage of White People in Jail”. What gives?

Pier 39 at Fisherman’s Wharf!

There are a lot of piers at the Fisherman’s Wharf. But Pier 39 is undeniably the most fun place to hang out.

Pier 39 pretty much consists of bunch of little mom and pop shops, aquarium, and some other tourist attractions. You can enlarge on the above picture to see the whole directory.

Here’s a look into what it looks like when you enter:

A word of warning about Pier 39, DO NOT GOTO Bubba Gump restaurant! It is the worst-tasting seafood at FIsherman’s Wharf! Although I do love the movie, Forrest Gump, Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant is like the horror-movie of San Francisco seafood. (I believe they are still in business due to all the new tourists who don’t know how the food tastes…)

Like I said before on the previous post, you need to go to Nick’s Lighthouse, not a fancy schmazy Hollywood bs marketing.

Best Seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf!

The best seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf has to be Nick’s Lighthouse. It’s a pretty small restaurant but a lot of the locals like the seafood there as they serve you some real fresh crabs and some great beer.
(I did also go to Alioto’s as you can see in the picture, their food is okay but not good enough for the price you pay.)

If you love seafood and you are in Fisherman’s Wharf, you need go straight to this place and ignore all others. Especially if you are visiting San Francisco, you need to check this place out.

It’s not cheap though, it’s still around $50 per person for a good meal and some beer.

There are couple other super-pricey fancy restaurants around with a good ocean view, but they can hardly beat the food you will find at Nick’s Lighthouse.

This is the place my parents and I celebrate any of our important days. (Now, I did tell you a “real” secret about San Francisco.)

I’d say this place is so good, it’s actually the best seafood restaurant in San Francisco Bay Area for crabs. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Best Clam Chowder Sourdough Bread Bowl is at Fisherman’s Wharf!

You will see Boudin Sourdough eatery somewhere in Fisherman’s Wharf. (They got 2 location I believe…)

They make some really funky sourdough breads such as the alligator and the turtle that you can see in the above picture.

But what they really offer is the best clam chowder sourdough bread bowl in Fisherman’s Wharf. The price is about $6.99 per bread bowl of clam chowder and I highly suggest you empty your stomach to get the full taste of the Clam Chowder.

What do I mean? Well, you need to the clam chowder soup and also finish the bread bowl itself. Otherwise, you are wasting it. So make sure you are really really hungry, so you can finish up a calorie-filling traditional San Francisco Clam Chowder.

Looks delicious doesn’t it? Sourdough is the best in San Francisco in the world today ever since the days of GoldRush where Californians refined it over the years to bring the locals and the tourists a slight sour and sweet taste of the bread.

If you are over at Pier 39, you can also check out another “cheap” sourdough place, which is pretty good:

Now, I’d say almost all the clam chowder is great anywhere at Fisherman’s Wharf. But do try at least one place as you will regret it if you don’t eat couple bowls of that soup on your trip.

The Best Thai Restaurant in San Fran!

Last week, I had the chance to go to this new Thai restaurant on Howard St. and between 10th and 11th street called Rodded Thai Cuisine. The place looks kinda old but the food is the best Thai food I had so far in San Francisco. Since my girlfriend is Thai, I “know” if Thai food tastes good or not.

My favorite used to be Ozone near downtown, but now I will be going to Rodded Thai more and more and the price is cheap too…

Next time, I will take some pictures of my food so you can see what I am talkin’ about or go check it out yourself. They even got a website here.
